why we call them polarized?

I’m starting the police academy in August, and upon completion I’ll need a pair of durable, polarized sunglasses to deal with the high glare and potentially violent environment I’ll be faced with on a daily basis. I’d like to find a pair of aviator style glasses as well. What do you recommend?

I used to have some ray band polarized sunglasses which where ok as the polarized lens did cut out alot of the glare but looking at really bright objects i still had to look away.

What type of lens do astronaut use I bet they use a combination of mirrored and polarized lens do ray band sell any? Im in the UK

I just purchased a pair of oakley’s polarized sunglasses and have found them to give me a slight headache, dizziness, and make some surfaces appear more reflective than normal. I thought polarized lenses reduced light’s reflection? Also when closing one eye (looking only through one lens) my vision isn’t as distorted. Is it possible Oakley sent a pair with different lenses (one without polarization or one or both lenses with prescription)? By the way, I also wear contact lenses, if this could have something to do with it?

I want some lenses that you can’t see my eyes from the opposite side, does that mean i want polarized?

the digital displays of watches and other devices are normally polarized

I see some fishermen wearing polarised sunglasses on days which are not particularly sunny days, so is this just some kind of fashion statement, or do polarised sunglasses give you a sight advantage even on days which are not particularly sunny?

I’ve been looking to finally upgrade from my old reliable Nautica CR-39 Polarized Sunglasses that I’ve had since late 2001. I’ve been looking at Smith Optics; The "Theory" model caught my attention because I like the smaller sized frames that don’t take up half your face. My main questions are

How are Smith sunglasses in general. I would primarily use them for casual wear or driving, and use during contact sports such as football/baseball.

Are the Polarchromic/Photochromic lenses worth the extra dollars?

Is spending all of the extra money on buying a polarized pair of sun glasses worth it? does it make a big difference? all of the people at the stores say that it is worth it but i cant tell if they are just trying to get me to spend the extra money or their telling the truth

I just got a pair of oakley polarized sunglasses. Trying to tell whether it is fake or real.. I have done some tests to determine that the lenses are indeed polarized. Is there any fake oakley that has polarized lenses? Or since I determined that the lenses are indeed polarized, chances are that it is authentic oakley?

I have a pair of Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ sunglasses and I threw away the packaging a while ago so I can’t refer to that, so is there a way to tell if they’re polarized? What are the characteristics of polarized lenses? How do they look in comparison with normal lenses? I think my lenses are "jet black", if that helps.

I am wondering because i am trying to buy some on ebay and im worried if they are fake or not, they have the logo on the arm but not on the lens, and how would i know if they are fake, and it says they are polarized, PLEASE HELP IM WORRIED

ok so i leave for hockey camp on july 4 and i need sum polarized sun glasses for less than 60 dollars i was hoping for sumthing that looks like these because theres alot of outdoor training

Am going to buy a pair of sunglasses, the polarized pair are twice the price (but of course, look/design the exact same as the non) is the extra worth it?????

I have a pair of Oakley (M-Frames) I just bought on Craigslist and I am trying to find out if they are polarized or not. I believe they are because they are harder to see through from the front and more reflective.
